Horse Care 101

If you're raising horses, chances are you already know that there is a lot of responsibility involved in the process. There are quite a few basic necessities that must be met for a horse to be strong and healthy. Let's examine some of the baseline horse care requirements to help ensure that you’re well-equipped to care for your equestrian investment.

First of all, the food that you feed your horses is of vital importance. While horses do get food and nourishment from grazing, it is also a necessity to provide them with fresh hay, a high quality grain feed, and ample water. Many people also find it beneficial to provide their horses with a little treat known as a salt lick. Just like people, horses require a certain level of nutrition to thrive. As a horse owner, it is your job to ensure that your animals received the nutrients they require.

Another horse care necessity involves or screaming. Regular brushing, banking, and treatments for the mane and tail will help to maintain the beauty of your animal. Some force and or select to braid mains and tails to avoid tangling. Some people also a lack to Bob the tails of their horses -- the only problem with this is that the horses cannot adequately combat flies, should they be pestered.

Secure shelter is also a vital importance in horse care. It's very important to make sure that the barn in which house your animals have stalls that are large enough for the horses to lie down. Keeping your horses in their own individual stalls (unless it's a mother and her colt) will help protect them from one another and from themselves.

You will also have to concentrate on ensuring your animals health and well-being through regular visits with the veterinarian. Most large animal vets will make house calls should you require emergency assistance. It is important to ensure that your animals are examined by a veterinarian at least once a year. If you're breeding your animals, you may consider additional visits to the veterinarian.

And last, but certainly not least, to provide your horses with the ultimate level of care, you should protect your property, and your animals, with a high quality pasture fence. Many horse owners make the mistake of allowing their animals to wander off of their property. This usually occurs as a result of low-quality fencing. The best choice, you can make for caring for your animals is to protect your land with a vinyl horse fence. Vinyl horse fencing is top-of-the-line for both property beautification, and animal protection.

If you're serious about caring for your horses, you will protect them in every way possible. You invest time, effort, and money into your animals; you should subsequently be willing to make the investment to protect your animals from wandering off of your property.
